Notes:
- Frequently reported to have been born in Waterford, Ireland with an extended ancestry there. I believe this is entirely fabricated by Guy Cooledge of Hobert College who did "research" around 1904, or known fraud Albert Welles who wrote in the 1880s.
- What is known about Ellis is that he left England in the 1630s for Massachusetts, becoming a freeman in Watertown June 1641. He served as contable and selectman. He first appears in the records in 1639 in an inventory of Watertown, at which time he owned about 10 acres.
-He left a will where he mentions seven children, his wife, and a black servant. His wife's will names this person as "Shippio". It is possible that Ellis was a barber, since the inventory of his estate included barber's tools and "instrumts to draw teeth".
