Notes:
-Apprenticed at Kingston-upon-Hull, Yorkshire. He immigrated to New England about 1640, where he settled at Winter Harbor, Maine, engaged in trading, and later resided in Wells, Maine. He was "clerk of the writs" from 1654 to 1664 and councilor. He had inherited the Osberton Estate near Workshop in 1666, including lands in the Bahamas, via the will of his brother John Bolles to his "brother Joseph Bolles in New England". Joseph returned to England to settle affaird; and sold the Osberton Estate. Joseph's house in New England was burned to the ground by Indians, and at his later death, his estate was inventoried worth 842 pounds.
-Joseph Bolles and wife Mary of Wells, to Charles Frost of Kittery granted "a certain peece of sault marsh lying and being in the Township of Cape Porpos contayneing tenn acers or less, wch. formerly Morgaan Howells and given to the said mary Bolles as by his will may and doth appeare" - April 3, 1672
