-IMMIGRATED on the "NIAGARA" Arrived New York Feb 12, 1849 with
wife Bridget. Listed as 38 years old. Wife listed as 30. Steerage. Left from Liverpool, lived in Ireland.
-Most Cloughers live in County Roscommon, but Timothy's records at
the Little Sisters of the Poor state he was born in county Gallway. He
probably was from one of the towns bordering County Roscommon.
-1852 Roxbury directory: Cloughar Timothy, house Proctor, corner Adams
-1859, his daughter Catherine, 9 years old was killed in a hit and
run: "Jan. 25th, a very bright and promising little girl, nine years old,
named Catharine Claugher, daughter of Timothy Claugher, was sent out by
her mother on an errand. She was crossing the street, when a person came
riding rapidly along on a horse. The horse struck the child with his fore
feet, kicked her forward, and then rode over her. The person was called
after by a German girl who witnessed the occurrence, but, without looking
back, cried out, " I can't help it," and continued riding as fast as
possible until out of sight. The child was picked up dead, with her arm
crushed, shoulder-blade twisted, and neck broken."
