His paternal grandparents were Jamys and Elysabethe Hedge. James died March 1553/54 in Ipswich, Suffolk, and Elysabetha died January 30, 1567/68 in East Bergholt, Suffolk.
His maternal grandparents were John and Margaret Burrough. John died April 1577. His mother Alice had a brother Christopher Burrough who, in his 1604 will mentions his brother Nicholas Hedge and wife Alice.
