Notes:
-A man of some moderate means; he also was literate and served a role in many town offices, including town selectman and constable (1663) in Newbury. He was a master carpenter and famed for the many buildings he constructed, including the town meeting hall. In 1666 he impregnated his wife's niece Ellnor, who was living with them as a servant. He was charged, convicted at fled the town. He returned later and was fined thirty pounds, and was disenfranchised.
-He named his daughter Sarah Hale in his will. He also freed "Jasper his Indian [who] hath been a good servant to him" six years after his decease.
- His is frequently reported to be the son of Richard Jaques of Wiltshire, but no clear evidence has been brought forth. Richard's will in England only mentions his wife.
