Many sources report Alexander Keeney from having a direct lineage from an earlier Henry Keney of Massachusetts, but no evidence of this has ever been brught forward. Also, a Keeney surname DNA Study showed that descendants of Alexander Keeney have a distinct and unrelated Y Chromosome then the descendants of Henry Keney.
The earliest record of Alexander Keeney is in March 1667 he was granted a lot of land to build his home upon. The October 1669 list of Freeman of Weathersfield, Connecticut has his name. He appears in the 1670 Weathersfield census with seven persons, and he took the inventoy of his step-son John Colefax. The 1670 census lists Elexander Keny with 2 bushels of wheat. He appears in and out of the records until his death and estate proceedings in 1680 where his wife, and children (Alexandr 18 Thomas - 16 Sara - 16 Joseph - 14 Lydia - 11 Ebenezer - 08 Richard - 6) are named. In 1682 the town paid for the education of his minor children.
Researcher Raymond Kinney has gathered quite a bit of evidence to show
that Alexander Keeney was originally from Scotland. Indeed there is a
passenger on the "John and Sarah" which sailed 1652 containing Scottish
prisoners sent to America by Cromwell after their defeat. This
passenger's name was Alester MacKhene. There are instances of the
descendants of Alexander Keeney using the "Mac" in front of their name,
and Alester is a Scottish form of Alexander.
