Elizabeth Osgood b.c.1643
- His origins are unknown, but he was born in 1609 according
to his own deposition. It is claimed he sailed aboard the ship
"Confidence" in 1638, and indeed, a William Osgood is on the list, but he
is listed as a child under 11 years old, so perhaps it is another younger
William Osgood who was aboard this vessel. William was a carpenter and
millwright, and openeed a saw mill. There is an unattributed story that
in his old age, one night aside the campfire he broke out into song that
"me wife was Betty Cleer, and I loved her before I see her". William lived
to be above age 90, dying in the year 1700 in Salisbury. His date of death is unknown but his will was written
March 15, 1700 and proved September 2, 1700. He left one half of a property to his "daughter Joanna Wife of Robert Jones of Almsbury" as well as money to "Thomas Quinby, son of my daughter Elizabeth Quinby deceased.
