- John's ancestry is unknown. He is frequently pegged as the baby baptized in 1582 in Wiltshire to Thomas Eyre, but a John is not named in his supposed brohers' wills, does not appear in the 1613 visitations, and that John is almost certainly the John Eyre, son of Thomas buried in the same parish in 1599.
- When John arrived in the new world is also not known, no record of his journey being identified.
- John did come from a background that included some money. A good write-up of his life is Here.
- John's wife is unlikely to have had the last name Evered or Webb. The confusion stemming from a will of John Evered who names the Ayer children in his will.
