-Recorded variously as 'yeoman' and 'merchant'. He was left money in the will of his father who died in 1597 in Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.
-His father William was a soapmaker. He was warden of the company of soapmakers and chandlers in 1559 and from 1563 to 1578 he was master of the company.
