-A Farmer, he was also active in the South Chelmsford Sunday School, being listed as a member in 1844. He was on the board of managers 1846 and 1847, and also for those two years a teacher and superintendant.
-From Nephew Daniel Proctor Byam's Civil War diary: Tuesday, February 7th, 1865:
It cleared off last night and is very fine today. Received a letter from Mother, 1 from Sumner, 1 from Newell. Hear the death of my uncle Josiah Byam; dropped down dead at Uncle Edwin's house.
-After wife died, he married Sarah Hardy of Freyburg, Maine on 12/28/1841. She lived 9/6/1802 to 12/8/1880. She lived her last years with her step-son John Byam, and his family in Chelmsford, although she died where she was born in Freyburg, Maine possibly.
-John Byam's will is #28676 in Chelmsford, MA year 1865.
