-The Book, "Descendants of George Byam (?-1680)" (1975) lists 5 children of William proctor and Sophronia (Byam) Cook. Charles, the oldest, is not listed as one of those children. However, he served alongside his father in the Civil War, and is listed in the 1850,1860 Census with the family as well as the 1870 Census as living with his mother, the widowed Sophronia Cook and three of her other children.
